Private Security Course and Certification Options

The DPSST Unarmed Security Course is required by the state of Oregon for all personnel who would like to work as a private security professional in the state. This course is 20 hours over a 2 day period (with an optional 10 hours on a third day) and includes the required 14 hours classroom lecture as well as Industry & Business Development/Coaching and optional  Private security Specific Defensive Tactics Course (Handcuff & Conductive Energy Weapon (CEW).

It is not only the first course in our Private Security Academy but also a prerequisite to the  Armed Security Course. Upon successful completion of the course students will have all documentation and have fulfilled requirements to apply for their unarmed private security professional certification with the state of Oregon.

All documentation needed to apply for certification as well as a student manual will be provided to each student.

Note: 

• Successfully completion of this course includes a passing grade of 90% on the closed book test given at the end of the course.
• The class fee is as follows and paid directly to Tri-Star Solutions for the administration of the course.
  • UnArmed Security Course: $200
  • Private Security Defensive Tactics: $200 (Optional)
• A separate fee is needed for your certification and made payable to DPSST.

Stay current, sharp, and compliant with Oregon DPSST requirements through our 4-hour Armed & 4-hour Unarmed Refresher Course. Designed for private security professionals who already hold a DPSST certification, this course reinforces the critical knowledge and practical skills necessary to maintain professional standards in the field.

Participants will review essential topics including Oregon use-of-force laws, situational awareness, conflict de-escalation, report writing, and safety protocols. Armed officers will also complete a firearms qualification and review weapons handling, marksmanship fundamentals, and legal responsibilities surrounding the use of deadly force.

This training ensures you remain legally compliant, tactically proficient, and operationally ready to perform your duties effectively and safely.
